Some things to consider look out for with the increased bench height.
Standard height kitchen benchtop.
Benchtops are generally 900mm from the ground.
The width of floor cabinets usually increase in multiples of 150mm i e.
A standard oven measures around 595mm h x 595mm w a standard microwave opening is 600mm w x 400mm h a standard fridge measures around 1700mm h x 720mm w a sink unit of standard size measures around 600mm to 800mm.
A height of 1 570 millimetres above the floor is the average eye level but consider the height of the main cooks in your kitchen to determine the most suitable height for you and your family.
Standard above bench kitchen cupboards are 300mm deep.
The height of kitchen cabinets to the top of the bench should be between 850mm and 1000mm.
Standard kitchen benchtop height.
The standard height for benchtops that is considered ergonomic is 900mm.
8 inches in height.
The height of kickboards beneath the bottom of the cabinets should ideally be between 100mm and 200mm.
The recommended standard kitchen benchtop height is 900mm 20mm.
Check your rangehood set out requirements they have a max sucking distance to set this height.
This is suitable for many but not for some.
The most common height for benchtops in the kitchen is about 900 millimetres from the finished floor level however bench heights of up to 950 millimetres and even higher are also popular.
The 8 inch user will be able to reach all shelves without a step stool.
900mm is still standard however i quite often do 950mm for my clients.
These distances are shown to be ergonomically practical for anyone over 4 feet tall and optimal for an average user 5 ft.
Low benchtops are a common cause of back pain so try to aim for a bench height of about 920 millimetres or whatever height is most comfortable for your family 900 to 950 millimetres is a comfortable height when using bar stools.
This is the distance between the finished floor and the top of the benchtop.
Note it is recommended that the height from the floor to the top of the highest appliance is no more than about 1 700 millimetres.
It is not a difference that will stand out as wrong and is really more in proportion with the heights of people today.
You can always discuss with your designer if you would like your benchtop to be lower or higher depending on your personal needs and in doing so you will do your back and limbs a favour.
The kickboard is usually 150mm high.
300mm 450mm 600mm 750mm 900mm 1050mm 1200mm.
This can vary plus or minus 20mm but if you don t ask it will be 900mm.
However the working bench height can be within the range of 850mm to 1050mm.
The standard benchtop is 900mm from the floor.
It can vary plus or minus 50mm.
